  • Anthropometric Stride Modeling: Your stride length is estimated using standard clinical coefficients, where individual stride length is modeled as approximately 41.5% of total standing height. This provides a significantly more accurate distance estimation than simple population averages.
  • ACSM Metabolic Equations for Walking: Energy expenditure is calculated by converting distance and duration into a walking speed, then applying the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) metabolic equation:VO₂ (ml/kg/min) = (0.1 × Speed in m/min) + 3.5VO₂ is then converted to kilocalories based on body mass (approx. 5 kcal per liter of oxygen consumed).
  • Terrain and Cadence Variables: Acknowledges that while horizontal walking calculations are generally consistent, actual energy cost increases with incline, load carriage (e.g., backpacks), and soft terrain (sand or grass).
