How Is Calories Burned Calculated?

This calculator uses the MET formula:

Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)

MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a standardised measure of exercise intensity. Walking has a MET of ~3.8, running at 10 km/h has a MET of 10.0, and HIIT has a MET of ~8.0. The higher the MET, the more calories burned per minute.

Example Calculation

Scenario: A 70 kg person goes for a 45-minute brisk walk (MET 5.0).

Calories = 5.0 × 70 × (45/60) = 262 kcal

The same person running for 45 minutes at 8 km/h (MET 8.3) would burn approximately 436 kcal — 66% more.
